IOSH Managing Safely is a globally valued health and safety certification. The course teaches learners how to manage and uphold health and safety responsibilities at work.
To obtain this certificate, candidates must complete two assessments: a knowledge-based multiple-choice online test and a skills-based practical risk assessment project.
The risk assessment project is a real-life application of the course content. It requires candidates to assess a chosen workplace for hazards outlined in the IOSH Managing Safely syllabus.
The IOSH Managing Safely course is open to all and can be passed by anyone. It is a Level 2 course for team leaders, managers, and supervisors.
You do not need previous health and safety knowledge, but a good understanding of English is helpful. The course teaches skills that can be used in any industry, making it practical and valuable across different fields.
To successfully finish the course, learners must pass both the IOSH Managing Safely Exam and Project.
The IOSH Managing Safely Exam assesses the student's understanding of the course material. It comprises 30 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within 45 minutes. Students must score at least 60% to pass.
Two attempts are allowed. Failing to meet the required score on the second attempt necessitates retaking the entire course.
The IOSH Managing Safely Project evaluates the student's ability to conduct a risk assessment. This assessment can take place at the workplace or any familiar environment.
The project is submitted online and assessed by tutors. Draft versions can be submitted for feedback before the final assessment. The project template includes three sections:
Page 1: Administrative details and scope description of the risk assessment
Page 2: Risk assessment following a format explained in the course
Page 3: Guidelines for completing the project. To pass the project, students must score at least 23 points out of 38.
Unlike written exams, the risk assessment project has no set time limit, but completing it within 2 hours is advisable.
Candidates must submit their completed risk assessment project within 14 days of completing the course to get an IOSH Managing Safely Certificate. The submission deadlines may differ based on the learning method.
IOSH Managing Safely opens doors to career opportunities across industries where safety is important. Whether you work in construction, manufacturing, hospitality, or any other sector, this qualification allows you to manage safety according to globally accepted standards.
