This First Aid at Work course supports workplace compliance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and follows an HSE-compliant curriculum suitable for medium to high-risk environments. It is ideal for workplaces such as construction sites, warehouses, factories, and larger office settings where first aid cover is essential. Delivered at multiple locations across the UK, the course is available as a traditional 3-day classroom programme or a blended route, with one day online and two days in class to minimise time away from work.
During the course, learners cover key first aid topics, including CPR, use of an AED, choking, bleeding, burns, fractures, shock, and how to respond to a range of workplace incidents and medical emergencies.
This course is best suited to staff who need to act as designated workplace first aiders, particularly in medium to high-risk environments. This includes businesses where the nature of the work, machinery, tools, or site layout increases the likelihood of more serious incidents.
This course is commonly suitable for:
HSE guidance suggests that higher-hazard workplaces with more than 50 employees should typically have at least one FAW-trained first aider for every 50 employees.
This First Aid at Work course blends theory-based learning with practical training to help learners build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond to workplace emergencies. It covers how to assess a situation, take control calmly, and provide appropriate first aid until further medical help arrives.
This combination of practical and theory-based learning helps learners prepare for a wide range of incidents that can happen in medium to high-risk workplaces.
There are no strict academic entry requirements for this course, but learners should be able to participate in practical training and assessment. This includes being physically able to perform activities such as CPR and casualty response tasks, and having sufficient English to understand the course content and complete the assessment. Learners must complete blended learning before attending the classroom session.
?? The course is suitable for learners with no previous first aid qualifications, as well as those who need recognised first aid training for their workplace role.
Assessment is carried out throughout the course and includes both practical and theory-based elements. Learners are assessed on key first aid skills, such as CPR, choking response, recovery position, and managing common workplace injuries and emergencies, as well as their understanding of the course content. The trainer observes practical assessments, and learners must complete a theory-based assessment or knowledge check.
After successfully completing the course, learners receive an HSE-compliant First Aid at Work certificate confirming they have completed the required training and assessment and are qualified to act as a workplace first aider.
The certificate is valid for 3 years, after which learners should book a First Aid at Work requalification (refresher) course before it expires to renew their qualification and maintain workplace first aider competence.
The FAW course is not available as a fully online qualification. To meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements, learners must complete the practical training and assessments in person.
We offer a blended option that allows students to complete part of the theory online and attend two classroom-based training days, providing added flexibility. This helps reduce time away from work while still meeting the legal and practical requirements for workplace first aiders.
The First Aid at Work course costs between £159.99 and £279.99, depending on the training location. We keep our prices competitive across our UK venues, and group booking discounts are available.
Whether you are booking for yourself or arranging training for a team, you will get strong value from a fully HSE-compliant course that leads to a recognised certificate.
If you are booking for multiple staff, we can arrange on-site First Aid at Work training at your workplace for added convenience. This is a practical option for companies that want to train teams together, reduce travel time, and minimise disruption to day-to-day operations.
On-site training covers the same HSE-compliant First Aid at Work curriculum as venue-based courses and leads to the same recognised certificate upon successful completion. It is ideal for businesses in sectors such as construction, warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, and larger office environments where having trained first aiders on site is essential.
Why companies choose on-site training:

The course was excellent as the Lecturer Mustafa kept everyone engaged and attentive. We all learned so much from the course and would recommend this course to anyone who wants to renew or retake their first aid at work certification. The course was packed with essential information without too much jargon so all concepts and information was fully absorbed by all. I definitely will book with HURAK for future training and will return again. Congratulations to all participants on the course and good luck in your future endeavours see you on the next one.

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is a workplace first aid qualification designed for people who need to act as trained first aiders at work. It covers a wider range of emergencies, injuries, and illnesses than a basic 1-day first aid course.
This course is usually suitable for staff in medium to high-risk workplaces or businesses that need more comprehensive first aid cover. Employers should decide this based on a first aid needs assessment.
Yes, the course is designed to meet workplace first aid requirements and follows an HSE-compliant curriculum for First Aid at Work training. Employers are responsible for ensuring their first aid provision is adequate and appropriate for their workplace.
No, the course is not usually completed fully online because practical training and assessment must be conducted in person. Some providers offer a blended option, where part of the theory is completed online before classroom training.
It covers both theory and practical first aid training, including CPR, choking, unresponsive casualty response, bleeding, shock, burns, injuries, and common medical emergencies such as asthma, stroke, and seizures.
Assessment is usually carried out throughout the course and includes practical observations plus a theory-based assessment or knowledge check. Your trainer will assess your skills during the practical parts.
Most learners find the course manageable because it is heavily practical and trainers guide you through each stage. As long as you attend, take part, and follow the training, you should be well prepared for the assessments.
No, you do not usually need previous first aid training to join the First Aid at Work course. It is suitable for beginners as well as staff taking on a workplace first aider role.

First Aid at Work certificates are valid for 3 years. Before the certificate expires, learners need to complete a requalification course to remain a competent workplace first aider.
Yes. HSE states employers should use a first aid needs assessment to decide the right level of training (for example, EFAW or FAW) based on their workplace risks, size, and circumstances.
