The law does not specify the validity of a first aid course, however, it is recommended that the training is provided every year as a refresher course.
The law does not specify an exact number. However, a risk assessment should be carried out to determine the likelihood of health emergencies. For a high-risk environment, it is recommended to have 1 first aider for every 50 employees. If there is a change in ergonomics, the risk assessment should be updated.
It is highly unlikely that legal action will be taken against a first aider given he or she was following best practice and had the right training. However, you should check with your company's insurance providers whether they cover first aiders' liability in their insurance policy.
