The Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers is an approved qualification for tutors wishing to deliver Level 2 physical intervention training as part of the SIA Door Supervisor and Door Supervisor Refresher courses. Holding this award is a mandatory requirement before delivering either course. This course is aligned with current SIA guidelines, ensuring you meet industry standards.
You’ll gain the knowledge to teach lawful and safe intervention methods, structure your sessions effectively, and maintain a professional training environment. It’s an ideal next step for those looking to expand their skills and offer in-demand SIA-recognised training.
The Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers is designed for instructors who want to deliver physical intervention units within SIA-linked qualifications, including the full Door Supervisor course and the Refresher programme.
Before starting the Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers, you must have:
If you don’t yet hold these, you can book our combined SIA Trainer Course package to complete all three courses. This option is ideal for anyone looking to become fully qualified and meet all SIA requirements in one go.
The Level 3 Physical Intervention Trainer Course is divided into two units, and each one has a separate assessment approach. The details for both units are outlined below.
This unit is delivered over 2–3 days and includes both a practical assessment of physical intervention techniques and a 45-minute multiple-choice exam. To pass, learners must achieve at least 24 correct answers out of 30 (80%).
Unit 2 combines online learning with a one-day, in-person practical assessment. You’ll first complete a self-paced portfolio via our Learning Management System (LMS), then attend a one-day in-class assessment.
Your online portfolio will cover:
After completing the online elements, you’ll attend our training centre to deliver physical intervention skills to a live learner group, supported by your assessor. On the day, you will use your risk assessment template to carry out a venue risk assessment, give a safety briefing, deliver and assess the skills, and complete a self-evaluation.
? From start to finish, you’ll receive personalised support from our expert instructors, so you’ll always feel confident about what to do next.
The time it takes to complete this course varies from learner to learner, as most of the content is delivered online and at your own pace. Some learners have finished in just two weeks, but the actual duration depends entirely on how much time you can dedicate. If you’re exempt from Unit 1, which applies to most learners, you can complete even faster.
You’ll begin with the online modules, and once these are complete, you’ll attend an in-class assessment lasting 1–4 days, depending on whether you’re exempt from Unit 1.
You have up to 12 months from your enrolment date to finish the qualification, giving you complete flexibility to work around your commitments.
When you successfully complete the course, you’ll be awarded the Highfield Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers in the Private Security Industry (RQF) and receive a physical intervention licence valid for 12 months. To keep your licence active, you must attend the annual Physical Intervention Refresher course.
This is a nationally recognised qualification, regulated by Ofqual and accredited by Highfield Qualifications.

You’ll spend 1–4 days in the classroom, depending on whether you need to complete Unit 1. Those holding a Door Supervisor qualification from 2021 onwards, or a Top-Up Door Supervisor from 2021–2024, are exempt from Unit 1 and attend only 1 day.
Yes. On successful completion, you’ll receive the Highfield Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers and a physical intervention trainer licence valid for 12 months. To keep your licence, you must attend the annual Physical Intervention Refresher course.
To deliver the Level 2 Physical Intervention unit in SIA Door Supervisor and Door Supervisor Refresher courses, you must hold both the Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers and a valid physical intervention licence.
Hurak is one of the few UK training providers with its own SIA-approved physical intervention methodology, allowing us to issue a 12-month trainer licence as part of your course—at no extra cost.
Completion time varies as most of the course is self-paced online. Some learners finish in as little as 2 weeks, while others take longer depending on their schedule. If you’re exempt from Unit 1, you’ll only attend 1 day in class; otherwise, in-class training can take up to 4 days. You have up to 12 months from enrolment to complete the qualification.
After you’ve completed all course requirements, it typically takes 10–15 working days for internal and external quality assurance to be completed before your certificate is issued.
The awarding body is Highfield Qualifications, a leading UK awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual.
This course is for experienced security professionals and trainers who want to teach the physical intervention unit in SIA Door Supervisor and Door Supervisor Refresher courses. It’s ideal for those already holding a recognised teaching qualification and the Level 3 Award in Delivering Conflict Management.
You’ll need a recognised teaching qualification, such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, plus the Level 3 Award in Delivering Conflict Management. If you don’t have these, you can take our full SIA Trainer Course package to complete all required qualifications.
You can complete the theory and portfolio work online at your own pace, but you must attend an in-person practical assessment at our training centre to qualify.
