The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is an essential foundation-level course for anyone starting a career in the construction industry. As a key part of the Site Safety Plus suite, it focuses on real site scenarios and helps learners understand common hazards, safe working practices, and individual responsibilities on site.
This health and safety awareness course is suitable for people new to construction who need a solid introduction to site safety and are working towards applying for their CSCS Green card, as well as for workers renewing their CSCS card who need to update their health and safety training as part of the renewal route.
This 1-day CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is specifically designed for individuals who are either starting their career or are already working in a labouring role.
It is the ideal choice for:
This course gives you a practical introduction to construction site health and safety, covering the key risks and safe working practices you’re expected to understand before stepping on site.
We offer three flexible ways to complete your health and safety awareness course, ensuring you can get qualified regardless of your location or schedule:
The CITB Health and Safety Awareness Course online is now available as a fully interactive e-learning module. This self-paced "eHSA" allows you to complete the 4-hour training at your own pace, from any device. This option is ideal for individuals seeking a quick qualification without the need to attend a scheduled session.
Our Health and Safety Awareness Course via virtual classroom gives you the benefit of a live tutor without the travel. Join a scheduled Zoom or Microsoft Teams session, participate in real-time discussions with our expert instructors, and complete your training in a single day.
For those who prefer face-to-face learning, we host sessions at training centres across the UK. With convenient locations in major cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and Glasgow, our traditional classroom format is ideal for learners who want to engage directly with experienced tutors and network with other construction professionals in their local area.
Before booking your CITB Health and Safety Awareness training, please ensure you meet the following criteria to guarantee a smooth certification process:
The assessment is the final step to earning your certificate. Whether you are attending a 1-day Health and Safety Awareness Course online or in person, the exam format remains the same:
Upon completing the assessment, you will receive your results on the same day. Following a successful pass, your official CITB Health and Safety Awareness certificate, valid for 5 years, will be issued within 7 working days. Your results are promptly uploaded to the official CITB database, allowing you to proceed directly with your CSCS Green Card application.
Booking your health and safety awareness course with an established, reliable provider is crucial to avoiding delays in getting on-site. Here is why thousands of construction professionals choose Hurak every year:
Yes. We offer two fully online options: you can either complete the self-paced Official CITB eCourse in your own time (approx. 4 hours), or you can join our Virtual Classroom to complete the training in a single day via a live Zoom or Microsoft Teams session with an instructor.
Your CITB Site Safety Plus (SSP) certificate is valid for 5 years. After five years, you will need to take the course again to renew your qualification and keep your knowledge up to date with current industry safety standards.
Both courses qualify you to apply for the CSCS Green Labourer Card. The CITB HSA is a 1-day course that is valid for 5 years and is highly recognised by major tier-1 contractors. The Level 1 RQF course is a flexible alternative with lifetime validity, meaning the certificate never expires.
The exam is designed to test your fundamental understanding of site safety, not to trick you. While you must score at least 25 out of 30 and correctly answer the three mandatory safety-critical questions, our learners enjoy a 94% first-time pass rate. We also provide official-style mock tests to ensure you are fully prepared before taking the real exam.
Good course, however don't expect it to fully prepare you for a CITB exam, this is meant for starters, these are two separate qualifications .
I had a fantastic experience with Hurak and would highly recommend their service to anyone looking to complete their Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification for the CSCS Green Labourer Card. A special thank you to Dhanush Kripalani for his outstanding help, professionalism, and kindness. He went above and beyond to assist me and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Thanks to his support, I was able to get everything sorted sooner than expected, allowing me to move forward with my CSCS card application and start looking for work earlier. Dhanush was incredibly helpful, patient, and supportive throughout the process. It's rare to come across someone who genuinely cares about helping people achieve their goals, and I really appreciate the time and effort he put into helping me. Thank you again, Dhanush, and thank you to the entire Hurak team! Keep up the excellent work. I would definitely recommend Hurak to anyone looking for training and qualifications in the construction industry.

This course is ideal for people who are new to construction and need a solid introduction to site safety, as well as workers returning to site work after a break. It’s also commonly taken by people who are applying for a CSCS card or renewing their CSCS card and need to refresh their health and safety training as part of their route.
The CITB Health and Safety Awareness (HSA) course is an entry-level construction safety course designed to give learners a practical understanding of health and safety on a UK building site. It covers common hazards, safe working practices, and the responsibilities workers have to protect themselves and others. It is also commonly used by learners working towards applying for the CSCS Green Card, depending on the current CSCS requirements for their route.
For many learners, yes. It is commonly used to demonstrate health and safety training and can be relevant to CSCS routes, especially for labourers and site operatives. However, requirements depend on the specific CSCS card type, so it’s best to check what applies to your role before booking.
In many cases, yes. The CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test is a separate touchscreen-style test that is often required when applying for or renewing a CSCS card. The HSA course and the HS&E test are different things, and many applicants need both.
If you choose the live Virtual Classroom or In-Person training, the course takes one full day. If you choose the self-paced online eCourse, it typically takes around 4 hours to complete the learning modules before taking the exam.
No prior experience is required. The course is designed for beginners and is also suitable for people who have worked on sites before but want a structured refresher of modern health and safety expectations.
Yes. You can complete the course online either as a live virtual (online classroom) session or as a self-paced online course, depending on the option you choose at checkout. You’ll receive the same certificate as the classroom course, and it can be used as part of the route towards applying for the CSCS Green Card (alongside meeting any other current CSCS requirements, such as the HS&E test).
Your CITB HSA certificate is valid for 5 years from the date you complete the course. If you still need the certification after that (for example, for site requirements or a CSCS route), you’ll normally need to retake the course before it expires.
At the end of your training, you must pass a 30-minute digital exam consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions. You need to score a minimum of 25 out of 30 marks to pass.
At the very start of your CITB exam paper, there are three mandatory safety-critical questions. You must answer all three of these correctly to pass the overall examination, regardless of how well you score on the rest of the test.
You will receive your exam results on the exact same day you take the test. Once you have passed, your official CITB certificate will be processed and issued to you within 7 working days.
No. Passing this course is the mandatory first step. To get your CSCS Green Labourer Card, you must also pass the separate CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) 'Touchscreen' test and then submit a formal card application to CSCS.
